Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

When you have just finished a strength session and need protein quickly, a smoothie is hard to beat. This one packs 30 grams of protein from powder, milk, and peanut butter into a glass you can drink in five minutes, with a banana for easily digested carbs that help you refuel.

It is also a good breakfast for mornings when solid food feels like too much effort. Because liquid meals are less filling than solid ones, drink it alongside something you chew—like a slice of whole-grain toast—if you know you get hungry by mid-morning.

Ingredients

  • vanilla or chocolate protein powder1 scoop (30 g)
  • low-fat milk or unsweetened soy milk1 cup (240 ml)
  • banana1/2 medium (60 g)
  • peanut butter1 tbsp (16 g)
  • ground flaxseed1 tbsp (7 g)
  • ice cubes1 cup (140 g)
  • ground cinnamon1/4 tsp (0.5 g)

Directions

  1. 1

Add the milk to the blender first so the powder does not stick to the bottom.

  2. 2

Add the protein powder, banana, peanut butter, flaxseed, cinnamon, and ice.

  3. 3

Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds, until completely smooth and frothy.

  4. 4

Pour into a tall glass and drink within 20 minutes for the best texture.

Tips

  • ✓Freeze the banana in slices ahead of time for a thicker, milkshake-like texture.
  • ✓Choose a protein powder with at least 20 g of protein per scoop and minimal added sugar.
  • ✓Add a handful of spinach—it disappears into the flavor but adds fiber and vitamin K.
